Software licence terms

Version 3.0, 16 October 2026. Applies alongside the terms of service.

This explains how you may use our software. You do not buy ownership, but a right of use for the term of your licence. These terms apply to software you buy in the shop. For WordPress modules we set up on request and for custom development, the arrangements in the quote and order confirmation apply.

1. What your licence allows

Product Use
Subtitle Studio Budget 1 Mac. Subtitling in Dutch and English.
Subtitle Studio Pro (yearly or monthly) Up to 2 Macs, or up to 2 users at the same time within your own organisation. All languages.
edelkrone control Licence: 1 Mac. Studio: up to 4 Macs.
Social Guidelines As stated with the product.

You move a licence to another Mac by deactivating it on the old Mac and activating it on the new one. You may use the software for your own work and for work for clients.

2. What is not allowed

  • Sharing the licence key with people outside what your licence allows, or reselling or renting out the licence.
  • Reverse-engineering or decompiling the software or bypassing the licence check, except as far as the law allows.
  • Using the software for material you have no rights to, or in a way that breaks the law.

3. GuifiLab builds the interface; how it works also depends on others

Our software brings together services, devices and open-source components from others and gives them an interface. If one of those parties changes or breaks the connection, our software works only in part or not at all. What applies then (no guarantee, we adapt within a reasonable time where we can, no refund) is set out in article 4 of the terms of service. Which versions of other parties’ products work with ours is shown on the compatibility page.

4. Per product

Subtitle Studio

  • Speech recognition and AI. Subtitle Studio uses the Whisper speech models and other open-source components to turn your audio into text locally on your Mac. Those models and components belong to others and can change or disappear.
  • Your own keys. If in Pro you choose a cloud AI (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or Mistral), or use speaker detection through Hugging Face, you use your own key or account. You enter into a separate agreement with that party. The costs and terms are for your account, and we are not a party to it.
  • Check the result. Speech recognition and AI make mistakes. The subtitles are a tool: you check them and remain responsible for what you publish.
  • macOS. A new version of macOS can change how the software behaves. Check the compatibility page before making a major macOS update.

edelkrone control

  • Independent product. edelkrone control is made by GuifiLab. It is not an edelkrone product, is not supported by edelkrone and is not part of the official edelkrone app. edelkrone is a trademark of edelkrone.
  • Official SDK. We build on the official edelkrone SDK. What the app can do depends on what that SDK allows. If edelkrone changes the SDK or the firmware of the devices, the connection can stop working.
  • Firmware: wait for our message first. Only update the firmware of your edelkrone devices after we have said on the compatibility page that the new firmware works. A firmware update can break the connection, and you cannot always count on being able to roll it back. If you update earlier anyway, that is at your own risk.
  • Moving equipment. edelkrone control makes camera equipment move. You make sure the setup is safe: nobody and nothing in the way, a stop button within reach, and test at low speed first. The app stops the movement if the connection drops, but that is not a guarantee.
  • Damage. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for damage to equipment, recordings or people resulting from using the app, a broken connection, a firmware update or an unsafe setup. This is also stated in article 13 of the terms of service.
  • Beta. While edelkrone control is offered as beta, it may contain bugs (see article 11 of the terms of service).

Social Guidelines

  • The platforms change. The overlays and safe zones show how Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and LinkedIn lay their interface and buttons over your video. Those platforms change their layout regularly without telling us. The zones are therefore a guideline, not a guarantee that nothing gets covered.
  • No connection with the platforms. Social Guidelines is not made, approved or supported by Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, LinkedIn, Adobe or Blackmagic Design. Names and trademarks belong to their owners.
  • Editing software. Social Guidelines works as a panel or plug-in in Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve. An update of those programs can make the panel or plug-in stop working.

5. Open-source components and software from others

Subtitle Studio is built on open-source software. The main components:

  • Speech recognition: the Whisper speech models, faster-whisper (CTranslate2), WhisperX and stable-ts.
  • Local AI on the Mac: MLX and mlx-lm, with local language models that each fall under their own licence.
  • Speaker detection and audio: pyannote.audio, Resemblyzer and Demucs.
  • Audio and video: ffmpeg and ffprobe.
  • App and processing: Python, PyTorch, NumPy, Flask, pywebview, pysrt, openpyxl, Pillow, RapidFuzz, jiwer and wordfreq.

These components fall under their own licences, which continue to apply alongside these terms. Some models, such as those for speaker detection, have their own terms of use; that is why the app asks for your own free access key for them. If in Pro you choose a cloud provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or Mistral), the terms of that service apply too. edelkrone control works with the edelkrone SDK, under edelkrone’s terms.

What we license is our own software: the application, the editor, the formatting and quality rules, the terminology management, the interface and the workflow. Want the full list with versions and licences? Ask support and we will send it to you.

6. Licence check

The software occasionally checks online whether your licence is valid. Without internet it keeps working for a number of days. The privacy statement explains what data is sent. Your video, audio and subtitles stay on your Mac.

7. Updates and changes

As long as your licence runs, you get updates at no extra cost. We may improve, change or replace features, for example because another party changes something. We adapt the software where we reasonably can and show on the compatibility page what works with which version. An update from us is no guarantee that everything keeps working when another party changes something.

8. Intellectual property

All rights to our software, the names Subtitle Studio, edelkrone control and Social Guidelines (as far as ours), the design and the code belong to Guifi BV. The subtitles and other files you make with the software are yours.

9. End of use

If your licence expires or you cancel, your right of use ends. Files you have made remain yours and remain usable. In case of serious misuse, such as sharing a key with strangers, we may suspend a licence immediately.
