Subtitles for Reels, Shorts and TikTok

Vertical video needs different subtitles from a 16:9 edit. Keep lines short, keep each subtitle on screen briefly and place the text where the app's buttons do not cover it. Subtitle Studio has presets for 16:9 and 9×16, and with Pro you make both versions in one click.

How to go about it

  1. Short linesOn a narrow screen you read fewer words per line. Break sentences at logical points.
  2. A calm paceNot too many characters per second, so viewers can follow while they scroll.
  3. Clear of the buttonsKeep the bottom and right side free for the platform's buttons. Social Guidelines shows those zones in your edit.
  4. Check before you postSubtitle QC has a preset for vertical social and points out lines that are too long and a pace that is too high.
