Offline subtitling on your Mac, without the cloud

Want to subtitle without sending your footage to an online service? Subtitle Studio transcribes entirely locally on your Mac. Your video stays on your own computer, and you deliver an editable SRT or VTT.

How to go about it

  1. Install Subtitle StudioThe app runs on Macs with Apple Silicon and macOS 13 or later.
  2. Add your video to the appThe audio is read locally; nothing goes to a server.
  3. Transcribe and correctTranscription happens on your Mac. In the editor you make the text ready to deliver.
  4. ExportExport SRT or VTT for your editor, YouTube or your website.

How Subtitle Studio fits in

Live

Working locally is the core of Subtitle Studio. The AI correction in Pro also runs on your own Mac by default; if you want to use a cloud model, you choose that yourself, with your own key. To check your licence the app connects now and then, and it keeps working for a while without internet afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need internet to subtitle?

Not for transcription: that runs locally. The app checks your licence online now and then and keeps working for a while without a connection afterwards.

Does anything go to the cloud?

Not by default. Only if you choose a cloud model for AI correction in Pro does the text go to that service, with your own key.

Why would I want to subtitle offline?

Because your footage then stays on your own Mac: useful for confidential interviews, client material or if your organisation does not want to use cloud services.
