Finding outdated content and updating it with purpose

You recognise outdated content by two things: how long it has not been updated and whether visitors still arrive. An old article with lots of traffic, you update. What nobody visits and is no longer correct, you remove and redirect to a better page.

How to go about it

  1. Sort by ageFind what has not changed for 6 months, 1 year or 2 years.
  2. Watch for expired yearsTitles with a year that has passed, like "tips for 2023", stand out right away to readers and in Google.
  3. Put the traffic next to itUse clicks and views to decide: update where visitors come, clean up where nobody comes.
  4. Remove with a redirectRedirect removed pages, so links and visitors do not end up on an error page.

How Content Checklist fits in

Beta

Frequently asked questions

When is content outdated?

When it has not been updated for a long time and the information is no longer correct. Age alone is not a reason: an old article with lots of traffic is often the one most worth updating.

Should I remove outdated pages?

Only if nobody visits them and they are no longer correct. Then redirect them to the best replacement page.

Can I share the list with my editorial team?

Yes, Content Checklist exports the overview as CSV.
